Sonda Walsh, M.Ed.
Biblical Counselor
Sonda Walsh holds a Master of Education degree and has completed the Formation Certificate through the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF). She is continuing her biblical counseling education and is currently completing the Essentials of Biblical Counseling Certificate, expected in March 2027.
Before establishing Ancient Words Biblical Counseling, Sonda’s life and career took her across cultures, classrooms, homes, universities, nonprofit and ministry settings, and the business world. She served as a Journeyman in South Korea and taught internationally in Syria, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and China. She is a former homeschool mother and has served as an adjunct professor of English, proposal writer, manager, and business development executive.
A Lifetime of Experience
These varied experiences have given Sonda the opportunity to know and work alongside people from remarkably different backgrounds and circumstances. They have also taught her the importance of listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, communicating truth clearly, and never assuming that two people’s stories are the same.
Called to Biblical Counseling
Sonda does not believe that professional accomplishment, education, or life experience is what ultimately equips someone to bring lasting hope to another person. Her confidence as a biblical counselor rests in the sufficiency of Scripture, the finished work of Jesus Christ, and the transforming ministry of the Holy Spirit. She believes God has called her to biblical counseling and has pursued formal biblical counseling training in response to that calling.
Counseling at Ancient Words Biblical Counseling
Through Ancient Words Biblical Counseling, Sonda counsels individuals, couples, and families who are navigating suffering, difficult relationships, grief, fear and anxiety, life transitions, patterns of sin, spiritual struggles, and other challenges of life. Her desire is to listen carefully and compassionately while helping counselees understand their circumstances, their hearts, and their responses through the truth of God’s Word.
A Life Shaped by God’s Faithfulness
Sonda’s confidence in biblical counseling has also been shaped by nearly five decades of walking with Christ through both seasons of joy and profound difficulty. Her own life has included experiences of deep suffering that have given her compassion for those facing circumstances for which there are no simple answers. She knows personally that God’s Word is not removed from the realities of suffering, broken relationships, loss, fear, sin, and change. Through it all, she has seen the faithfulness of God and the enduring relevance of His word. Her approach is biblically based, Christ centered, and dependent upon the work of the Holy Spirit. Scripture is the authoritative and sufficient foundation for understanding the human heart, suffering, relationships, sin, hope, and lasting change.
Ancient Words Biblical Counseling is based in Chickasha, Oklahoma, with counseling available both in person and virtually.
